Gaston - Disney's Beauty and the Beast - Theatre by the Sea, Matunuck

"The millisecond he swaggers into the spotlight, the stage is unequivocally his. Hu gives a masterful performance as the self-absorbed, arrogant hunter, bask[ing] in each overblown, hammy moment, posing and flexing with glee and reveling in the quick-witted (and self-aggrandizing) musical numbers "Me" and "Gaston."

By the second act, the gloves are off as Hu's Gaston turns downright menacing, and blithely egocentric first-act melodies give way to the dark, dangerous tones of the "Mob Song." No matter the character of the number, Hu's outstanding baritone interprets every note for a vibrant and authoritative performance."

- Veronica Bruscini, BroadwayWorld.com

"Wayne Hu, back in Rhode Island after playing the Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince in Ocean State Theatre’s 2015 production of “Into the Woods,” belts Gaston’s numbers in a baritone that could fell redwoods as he struts the stage popping biceps like Provincial Town Idol."

- Kathleen Troost-Cramer, Mercury

"...played magnificently by Wayne Hu, an Asian opera singer who has complete control and believability in the role"

- Don Fowler, Johnston Sunrise

"Wayne Hu perfects Gaston’s transition from goofy comic cad to villainous demagogue and quickly becomes the show’s most magnetic stage presence. Hu’s bulging biceps were eclipsed only by his rich operatic voice, which added much to the character."

- Brad Hevenor, The Independent

"The role of 'hero' Gaston is played with spot-on aplomb by Wayne Hu. Hu's Gaston is fueled by alpha-male swagger, vanity and puffed-up pretention - perfectly capturing the role as written. As an added bonus, he absolutely nails the role's signature numbers with his resonant operatic voice."

- Marilyn A. Busch, Motif Magazine

"Opera singer Wayne Hu as Gaston has a truly outstanding voice, and is hilariously self-absorbed."

- Kimberly Harper, WPRO News Talk

"Giving a powerhouse of a performance as Gaston, is the muscle-bound Taiwan-born actor-opera singer Wayne Hu whose voice, presence and physique will not soon be forgot."

- Nancy Burns-Fusaro, The Westerly Sun

Angelotti - Tosca - Union Avenue Opera, St. Louis

"Hu delivered a compelling portrayal of the doomed political prisoner Angelotti, displaying [his] arresting voice."

- Mark Bretz, Ladue News

"Wayne Hu is particularly strong as Angelotti."

- Steve Callahan, KDHX St. Louis

"Wayne Hu was excellent as the escaped prisoner Angelotti."

- John Huxhold, Post-Dispatch

Fredrik Egerman - A Little Night Music - The Princeton Festival, Princeton

"Mr. Hu seems a bit young for this character and the line where the middle aged and tired Fredrik sings that his body is “all right/ but not in perspective/ and not in the light” is a tough sell with Mr. Hu’s Stanley Kowalski-esque arms on display. But that’s easily put aside listening to Mr. Hu’s voice, which is strong and expressive."
- Anthony Stoeckert, TimeOFF

Wolf / Cinderella's Prince - Into the Woods - Ocean State Theatre, Warwick

"...a host of impressive voices, including Wayne Hu's glorious baritone. Hu doubles as Cinderella's prince and the Wolf, and he was a joy to listen to."

- Channing Gray, Providence Journal

"I must single out Wayne Hu as Cinderella’s Prince, whose operatic voice shines above the rest."

- Don Fowler, Cranston Herald

"One of my favorite voices in the show belongs to Wayne Hu, who plays the Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince."

- Kim Kalunian, WPRO News

Enjorlas - Les Misérables - Amarillo Opera, Amarillo

"Wayne Hu's captivating [as] Enjorlas."

King Triton - Disney's The Little Mermaid - The Growing Stage, Netcong

"Wayne Hu makes a fine, firm King Triton (marvelous voice)."

- Rick Busciglio, Examiner.com

Title role - The King & I - Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Jupiter

"[Wayne Hu] struts across the stage exuding an autocrat's Divine Right, but mixes his imperious tone with an appealing confusion about a world whose standards are eroding under him."

"Hu exhibits a baritone as full and muscular as his bare, broad shoulders."

- Bill Hirschman, Florida Theater On Stage

"Hu has more power than his songs require, but he also gives his numbers a rare musicality."

- Hap Erstein, The Palm Beach Post

"Strong operatic voice and impressive majestic acting...."

- Carol Saunders, Jupiter Courier

"Wayne Hu's voice was perfect for [the King] and his acting was just as effective."

Title role - The King & I - Porchlight Music Theatre, Chicago

"...the single strongest impression I got from the production is the thought that it may be the first one the show has ever received in which the strongest singer in the cast is playing the King!"

- Paul W. Thompson, BroadwayWorld.com

"Wayne Hu deftly [captures] his character's volatile mix of authority and easily wounded pride."

- Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun Times

- Jane Holahan, Intelligencer Journal Lancaster New Era

Lun Tha - The King & I - Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Little Rock

- Joy Ritchey, Arkansas Times
